Commanders Name Sam Howell Starting Quarterback

Howell to Lead Team in Season Opener

Washington Commanders' second-year quarterback Sam Howell has been named the team's starting quarterback for their season opener. Howell, 22, has impressed coach Ron Rivera with his progress and decision-making in joint practices. He has been operating as QB1 for all of OTAs, minicamp, and the last three weeks of training camp.

Howell has thrown for the most yards in the NFL this season, surpassing Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. He has also completed the most passes and has the highest completion percentage among all quarterbacks.
